Permit me, please, a second to place my money down in a hypothetical wager on the story here. My money's on; stunt, hoax, fabrication, promotion, bullshit. I'm putting some hard won imaginary money down on the publicity pentafecta. This thing, this aquatic Frankensmurf fish from the deep, has at it origins some very commercial DNA (read; Cloverfield). If I might continue with some, as I see them, salient points. The Montauk Monster. Different poses yet none of the sand is disturbed around the little darling. It appears as though water has washed around it perhaps that accounts for the differences. Where have all the people gone? Montaulk is just down the road from New York City. Just guessing but the shadows would indicate these photos were made near midday. Summer, summer in the city and nobody's on the beach that might be able to corroborate MM was indeed reposing peacefully along a beach in close proximity to 8 million people? At the height of the very season that gave The Girl played by Marilyn Monroe reason to stand upon that one particular subway grate? Furthermore, is there anything, anything, in this world of even a potentially passing interest that isn't instantly photographed by more cameras than cover your average Super Bowl? Look at a google map. As per Newsday the thing washed up on Ditch Plains Beach. Literally in the front yards of a ton of houses. How could anyone find what for all intents and purposes appears like nothing else ever seen to most people and not be driven to find out what said find is all about? Take the creature to a veterinarian. The zoo. The police. A fishing boat captain fer christsakes!!!! Where's captin' Quint? Oh yeah, right. OK. Why, how, could somebody just take the carcass and bury it? What the hell does DNA stand for? Don't Notify Anybody?






Least you think me a cynic. Hard boiled and humorless. I choose until all bets are made and paid to suspend my disbelief as the originators no doubt want me to. Breath deeply the wafting possibility that some day, somewhere, somehow, little gray/blue monsters exist. As the title intones; I want to believe. Sasquatch, Yeti, Loch Ness, Gray's. Bring 'em all. I relish the thought of a quantum leap in zoology as much as the next person. But then the mystery is gone in a general way. Studied, identified, cataloged. The wonder of the unknown vanishes. Faith is not sole providence of religious believers. Having faith that there are things unknown, beyond our imagination even, provides no small amount of comfort. To have faith that we are not alone. To have faith there is new yet to be discovered is part of what makes us us. Sometimes we look around at this world, see the glass half empty and say to ourselves please don't let this be all there is. How could anyone be so arrogant as to think with any certainty that we know it all or the we here on earth is all there is. Here's hoping then that the Monster of Montaulk is as real as it gets.

We all cream for ice cream!!!! Went downtown the other night for a wee snack. I was so hot. Got a big 'ol chocolate ice cream cone and wouldn't you know it just as soon as I touched the thing it started creaming all over me. With summer approaching and record triple digits all up and down the East Coast I'd thought I'd throw out a little something, something for my foot lovers. This phenomenon seems to happen to me quite a bit. I've had pop cans practically explode with the slightest coaxing. Ketchup bottles eject their contents in great gushes when cradled in my hands. I flip off the top and squirt goes the sauce all over the table. It's something I've learned to have fun with. People don't complain, oddly enough, when champagne geysers in a great arc across the room. Or steak sauce spews forth in great globs of dark deliciousness. And certainly it's made me a fav amongst my most intimate friends as you might well imagine. In fact please do. What I saw on my trip to the (really) big city.

A year cannot go by without me making some acknowledgment of the time's passing. I'd like to be able to say the last year was taken up by something romantic, adventurous, dynamic, dangerous. How would it sound that I was in the middle of some international intrigue? Too much? Why not me? Somebody's got to do it. International intrigue I mean. Would you like to hear about my year long travels with oh say Norwegian Royalty. Ballooning over the great savanna's and farmland and mounts of the world. Oh if it were only so. I was busy, you see, cutting a swath broad and deep through the concrete canyons of financial districts everywhere. Making killings of all and any manner. Alas, no. No I was not. I have busied myself with the adventure and romance and danger of everyday living. And making photographs. And chatting up the most delightful folks that call me through Nite Flirt.

Just to follow up on the below. Simply: he's doing fine. College you know. Just like any other kid. With so, so many people being found innocent of crimes charged through DNA after decades of prison time this miscarriage of justice was rectified relatively quickly. Nearly immediately. Though DNA didn't play a part in this, just good old fashion common sense, the outcome still speaks to the nature of the US legal system and the fact that while far from perfect it's open to righting itself when acted upon by the appropriate forces and circumstances.

JUSTICE NOT SERVED?.............................Maybe this has been done to death, then again can it be pointed out too much, can enough be said about miscarriages of justice? I don't think so. How can the legal system allow for a person charged with a relatively minor crime, be sentenced harshly, set free, then have that freedom yanked away? Can anyone who has not experience this Kafkaesque nightmare even begin to relate?Genarlow Wilson can. The application of law in a Draconian manner such as this, in the present climate and the fiasco of Nifong in the Duke case, has to be heard as a cautionary tale. Genarlow Wilson is now a 20 year old prisoner of the state of Georgia, or maybe more precisely, the Attorney General of the state of Georgia. He is the prisoner of Attorney General Thurbert Baker because a lot of, if not most, people including Judge Thomas H. Wilson disagree with his prosecution of the honor student and star football player. Judge Wilson, in ruling, said "The fact that Genarlow Wilson has spent two years in prison for what is now classified as a misdemeanor, and without assistance from this court will spend eight more years in prison, is a grave miscarriage of justice."

BENCHMARKS NOT BEING MET................................It's painfully obvious that the promised light at the end of the tunnel is yet another oncoming train. With the violent, blood soaked, stalemated nightmare only getting worse it's inevitable that the progress reports due in September will show that Iraq is irretrievable as is. Smart money will tell you that this administration will tell you that things are getting better and it just needs more time.

LIES OF OMISSION......................... are, really, no better than an outright lie. Both seek to distort facts and misrepresent an issue to benefit the teller of said lie. E.D. Hill and her writers and producers at Fox perpetrated a lie of omission on their viewers on the morning of 13 June 2007. While presenting what was said by a guest lecturer of a Boulder, CO, high school viewers where shown a quote as follows; I'm going to encourage you to have sex and I'm going to encourage you to use drugs appropriately. But in defending the escalation he has withheld speculation on any expectation by saying it's too early. All the troops aren't even there in place yet. June. June is when all is to be in place. June, July, then September. Is there any reason to think this administration will pass judgment on their precious war with less than three months of operations? No. And he has spoken to the issue of whether a contained, monitored Hussain was better than the festering, violent, al Qada heaven that this war has created. He said no. What we have on our hands is the better option. And he knew he had shit on his shoes right after he said that. It could be seen on his face.

SHE'S A BEAUTY, 'O BOY, 'O BOY....................... What a wonderful combination of of natural beauty and danger is a well shaped, well formed ocean storm. And this little girl is a rogue to boot. Going against the currents literally. That's where the sense of danger comes in. What is she going to do? Just as well. When, during a national debate of presidential candidates, any hands, whatsoever, are raised in answer to the question "who doesn't believe in evolution?" then that is a heard that needs thinning. It's an interesting note that the candidates mention a dead president, Ronald Reagan, 20 times and the current one once. Rove/Bush has delivered to the American people a model of inefficiency. The have said the right things, made the right promises to the right people, used catch phrases, and buzzwords and coordinated attacks on rivals better than anyone maybe ever has. What they lack is substance. Maybe they bought into their own hype. They often cop to being stupid rather than duplicitous. "I don't recall." The e-mails were deleted by accident. We had bad intelligence. The list is long and varied. But what is clear is that at the very least they were unable and possible unwilling to fulfill any of the promises. I am not surprised. The arrogance and greed that has permeated this administration from bottom to top can only leave ignorance as an explanation of the utter disastrous failure. On September 12, 2001 the world had come together maybe like never before. There was an opportunity presented there and then for deep, lasting, sweeping change. That opportunity was and continues to be squandered.

DC MADAM.............. thank Christ that the other stiletto has dropped. Or has it. ABC News revealed no new names from the little black phone record of Deborah Jeane Palfrey. Now maybe this can move on in a little less circus-like atmosphere and we can get to real reason why a federal prosecution is bring brought against this woman. Of course we can't forget that Ms. Palfrey can, and intends to, call some of the clients as witnesses. And it will be interesting to see if they get any immunity. To some relief I find that the fact that most of the conservative pundits who care to intone about this say that it matters little who, what, where and why people employ an escort service. Although their knee-jerk response to even the potential of names on the record might be seen as conservative and hence more than likely hypocritical is interesting. Conservatives have such a way of denying even the most basic inclinations of the human condition (with the exception of killing and lying). So now the loudest gas bags are left out there, having preemptively bemoaned the fact that ABC was going to selectively release just conservative names, with really nothing to speak to except that, you know, really, what a person does in his/her private life should pretty much stay private.

Monday morning saw a woman with the name Deborah Jeane Palfrey , a name that strikes one as Rockwellesque, a name you can almost hear carried through the summer air and past window screens followed by "come get your supper" or "the dog got out" or "stop picking on your brother", a woman who has been pushed into a corner, a woman whose hand has been forced by this government, has, it appears, the need to call out the names of others in her own defense. And those names may very well be very well known. The sex part of the tale is really less than half of the story. Why has this women been targeted and by whom? She, to this point, is the only person charged. What she's being charged with, racketeering, by definition requires the actions of two people- at least. None of the women she had had working with her and none of the clients who used the services of those women have been charged. Ms. Palfrey has made it clear that she needs to have some clients come to her defense. It's not blackmail as someone asked her during Monday morning's statements. "I call that due process of law," said Montgomery Blair Sibley. It is her right, her obligation really, to defend herself. This country, as you know, is still very puritanical. The clients will be either shamed silent or they will be shamed if they speak up. And there's nothing to be ashamed about. Deborah says she did nothing illegal. The clients will more than likely say they did nothing illegal. The women will say they did nothing illegal. So where's the shame. The shame is in the fact that anything connected with sex, and commercial sex in particular, sometimes by law, is shameful. There's more shame in the fact that it is possible that this may very well disclose even more rampant hypocrisy. One of the names to come out already has a ring of hypocrisy. Randall Tobias, according to a Wkikipedia listing; In his capacity as Director of Foreign Assistance, Tobias encouraged sexual abstinence, and discounted the use of condoms, in preventing HIV/AIDS. "Statistics show that condoms really have not been very effective," Tobias told a news conference in Berlin on April 21, 2004. From ABC News.

You know how this would go away? If this society would just get over themselves and let people be people then there would be nothing to be worried about. THE POT BEGINS TO SIMMER With the I Lewis Scooter Libbey trial starting to play out, albeit behind closed doors, in open court we are beginning to get our first glimpses into what I feel will prove to be the most inept and or corrupt Presidential administration in the short history of these united states. It's long been held by some who should know theat the power structure of the very top election of our present government is not exactly a top down affair. With the aggression, the more obvious relishing of power and greed coming from the number two it is easy to imagine just what we are already seeing coming out in trial of I Lewis Scooter Libbey. Actions running in absolute contradiction to what has been said and put forth as fact. Specifically; what has been put forth as fact was that the office of the vice president was unconcern, even unaware, of Joe Wilson's trip to Niger and what he was aware of was maliciously untrue. This is appearing false. According to Dick's own communication secretary he was very, very, very aware, obsessively so, with any and all criticisms and any and all indications that there was anything less than a cornucopia of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is inevitable that the pot of noxious sludge that this administration has brewed is beginning to simmer. Little bubbles appearing on a black slimy surface. Like to the witches of MacBeth the toils and troubles of this nation will soon be revealed. And there's more........ even the goddamn press secretary needs protection from prosecution. Holy shit, what does it say when the press secretary needs a promise from a federal prosecutor that he won't be put on trial just for telling what he knows. It's positively Spartan-like the way these groveling, hanger-ons to the maniacally powerful and greedy are willing to fall on their sword. Now, I'll admit, there is a certain honor in it in a perverse way. But to hide wrong doing and or lying falling on your sword can look just pathetic. After all the power mad don't have any appreciation for their underlings. They expect those who they perceive as lesser than they to happily sacrifice themselves up to the point of and including losing their freedom.

If a super secret government agency relied on luck and was muddled with petty jealousies as much as CTU is and terrorists depended on the dedication of suburban teens and antiquated Soviet era weaponry our biggest problem really would be who's the more powerful; Donald or Rosie.
